Scenario: You have created a support request and the support agent asks for a screenshot of certain views. Here’s how you create a screenshot.
Please create screenshots in a way that as much of the situation as possible is visible. This can be achieved by setting a sufficient window size and arrange the windows so that no area with important information is covered. If important objects don’t fit on one screen please create several screenshots. For example if you have so many disks online that they do not fit on one screen and scrolling is necessary.
Please submit photos to document issues during the boot process, with one of the rescue environments or other situations without the possibility to create a screenshot.
Hit the “Print” key which can usually be found top right on your keyboard. This writes a dump of the entire screen to your clipboard. Then run MS Paint, another image editor or even MS Word. Paste the content of the clipboard (CTRL + V) and save the file. Please save image files in JPEG or PNG format.
Newer Windows versions offer the “Snipping Tool”. This tool is accessible via the Start Menu => “Accessories” resp. “Windows Accessories”. It lets you select the entire screen as well as a certain window or even a freely drawn rectangle. Please follow the suggestions in the “Preparation” paragraph.
You may use the following shortcuts to create screenshots on a Mac. If you choose to create files these will be found on your desktop. The names will be automatically generated with a timestamp and the file format will be PNG.
