For more information, see: Microsoft KB
Errors in source system might cause such error. Type the following commands in Recovery Console:
Bootrec /fixmbr Bootrec /fixboot Bootrec /RebuildBcd Bootsect /nt60 all
Alternatively you can follow the same instructions as in “BOOTMGR is missing” case.
See Microsoft KB article.
Check that partition containing boot files is Active (it is either same Windows partition, System Reserved partition or another specific partition). In case of copy/backup check source disk partition to identify it. Also boot partition may be not copied to the target disk.
If one has a multi-boot system and then made a copy single Windows partition to another HDD while other Active Windows partition with boot was left behind, boot files could be created manually to fix the error. For Windows Vista and later the command is:
bcdboot X:|Windows /s Y:
Where X means letter of partition where boot files are located and Y means partition where you want to create boot files. As result hidden “Boot” folder and “bootmgr” file should appear in the root of Y. If some doesn’t, rerun the command until it appears. Then partition Y should be made active in Disk Management or in Paragon product that allows it.
