You boot your PC from WinPE Recovery Media, and receive Stop Screen (BSoD) with “BAD_POOL_CALLER” error code.
Our investigation shows that the issue seems to be related to the “SATA Operating Mode” or “SATA Configuration Mode” being set to “RAID” in BIOS as factory default by the system manufacturer, rather than AHCI. This seems to be extremely commonplace these days even when systems only have 1 disk.
If you’re planning to just restore your backup, and don’t care about the underlying data on the disk since it’s being overwritten with the contents of their image, just switch to AHCI in the BIOS, boot to WinPE, and restore.
However, if you need to capture your image from WinPE and the working Windows system is currently set to RAID, the instructions on this page provide a safe way to switch from RAID to AHCI, as if it’s just switched from RAID to AHCI in BIOS alone then Windows will no longer boot:

We recommend to create backup from regular Windows installation before making changes from this article — just in case.
