Bootcamp Disappeared After Resize Operation

Scenario

You may experience issues with Bootcamp partition after the resize operation: Your Bootcamp may gone or split in two parts: Bootcamp and Free Space. The issue usually occurs because of bad-

block and error on the disk. Also, it may happen if the Mac was restarted during resize operation.

In this case, the best solution is to try to recover the Bootcamp original configuration.  

Please note: The Solution 1 is applied ONLY for these operation systems:

  • OS X 10.12 Sierra;
  • OS X 10.11 El Capitan;
  • OS X 10.10 Yosemite;
  • OS X 10.9 Mavericks;

Possible Solution 1: Hard Disk Manager for Mac and Undelete Wizard

  1. Download and install the trial version of Hard Disk Manager for Mac
  2. Connect a clean USB to your Mac
  3. Launch Hard Disk Manager for Mac:
  4. Press Wizard’s and select Recovery Media Builder:
  5. Create a Recovery Media USB:
  6. Boot from the created recovery USB:
  7. Launch HDM in Recovery Media Mode:
  8. Right click on the ‘Free space’ partition and select ‘Undelete Wizard’:
  9. Scan All Sectors:
  10. Select what configuration you want to restore:
  11. Apply operations and your Bootcamp configuration should recover:
  12. Enable System Integrity Protection and attempt to boot to your Bootcamp

 

 

Possible Solution 2: Using Rescue Kit

  1. Download and install the free version of Rescue Kit  for Mac: https://www.paragon-software.com/home/rk-free/download.html
  2. Prepare a recovery media USB via Rescue Kit  for Mac:
  3. Perform a backup of the current state of the hard disk
  4. Delete corrupted Bootcamp partition via Disk Utility (Prepare a ‘free space’ partition)
  5. Boot from this recovery media USB
  6. Open Rescue Kit
  7. Select ‘ Undelete Partition ‘:
  8. Follow Wizard’s instructions and recover Bootcamp
